Appointment System Explained
Routine appointments during the week can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance either online through Patient Access or by calling the surgery. 25% of appointment slots can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance, 67% are released on-the-day (8.00am), and 8% are reserved for emrgency triage consultations. The allocation for the appointments may vary from time to time depending on GP availability. Please note on Saturdays, appointments are only released a few at a time during the week leading up to the Saturday surgery.
Making an Appointment
When a patient calls the surgery for an appointment they will be given the choice of a face-to-face or an emergency traige phonecall. Please note that option 4 is for appointments.
Emergency Traige Consultations
Patients require an emergency triage consultation will be contacted by the GP.
Patients opting for a face-to-face consultation will be given an appointment as normal, although if you think it is an emergency, you may be offered an emergency triage consultation
To make use of this service, you will need to register at the surgery. You will need to bring photo identification in order to register. Once you have registered, you will be able to view, book or cancel a GP appointment at any time even when the surgery is closed.
Late or Missed Appointments
We are now offering a text messaging service to remind you of your appointment. If you are unable to make the appointment, please call reception to cancel so that we can see other patients who need medical attention. If you change your mobile number please inform reception.
We ask that you arrive on time for your appointment. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, you may be asked to rebook.
We will happily provide home visits where they are clinically justified, e.g. to housebound patients and the terminally ill.
If you wish to request a home visit, please contact the surgery as soon as possible so that doctors can plan their visits.
Please try to get to the surgery if at all possible - the doctor can see 4 or 5 patients in the time it takes to do one home visit. We are unable to do home visits simply for patient convenience - there must be a genuine health reason.
Except in exceptional circumstances we will always ask for small children to be brought to the surgery, where we believe we can offer the best care and undertake a more thorough assessment.
At Bedford Hill Family Practice all consulting rooms are located on the ground floor with wheelchair access.
Metered parking is available on local roads. The car park is for staff members only, although there are dedicated disabled parking bays for patients (via Elmfield Road)
Hearing loops are in place.
Accessible Information Standard
At registration, the practice will ask patients if they have any information or communication needs, and find out how best to meet these needs. This information will be recorded clearly in the medical record, using the Accessible Information Standard template.
If your request is for an emergency then dial 999.
Patients wishing to book transport for outpatient appointments will need to call the transport team, who will carry out a medical assessment over the phone and, if appropriate, arrange their transport to and from hospital.
If you are eligible, please call the transport team at St George's Hospital on 020 8725 0808, Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 4.30pm. They require at least 24 hours notice to arrange transport.
